The opposite-hand rule
To type a capital letter on the left side of the keyboard (like A or T), hold the right Shift key with your right little finger. For a capital on the right side (like J or P), hold the left Shift. This keeps one hand free to type the letter from its normal position and avoids twisting your hand.
Timing
Press Shift a moment before the letter and release it right after. Releasing too late is the most common capital-letter mistake: it turns "The" into "THe". Practice slowly until the movement is clean. Then try the paragraph typing test, which uses capitals throughout.
How this lesson works
Type each line exactly as shown. The next key lights up on the keyboard and the line below the text tells you which finger to use. A wrong key is counted as a mistake and the letter turns red, but you stay on it until you press the right key, so you always finish with correct muscle memory. Finish with 97% accuracy or better for three stars. Your best result is saved in this browser.

Frequently asked questions
Why not use Caps Lock?
Caps Lock needs two extra key presses for a single capital and is easy to leave on by mistake. It is only useful for typing several words in capitals.
Which Shift key should I use for T and G?
T and G are typed by your left index finger, so use the right Shift key.
Why am I getting "THe" instead of "The"?
You are releasing Shift too late. Let go of Shift as soon as the capital letter is typed.
